London, UK, 10 December 2012 – MarketKey Ltd announced today that Mark Chapman, Chief Engineer for The BLOODHOUND Project, will speak at the Product Innovation (PI) 2013 congress. PI 2013 takes place on 19-20 February, 2013, in Berlin. At the event, Mark will demonstrate how the project pushes the boundaries of existing technologies and its requirement to be innovative at every stage of development.
MarketKey are delighted to welcome back the Bloodhound SSC team to the event. We first worked with them at the London Congress back in 2011, when the quest to beat their existing land-speed record and reach 1,000 mph (1,610km/h) was in its relatively early days.
Things have been moving quickly since then, with the last milestone being the testing of the hybrid rocket system in Cornwall, England on October 3rd. Aside from being the largest rocket tested in the UK in 20 years, it is also the largest of its kind ever designed in Europe. An indicator of just how powerful this rocket is – it requires a Cosworth Formula 1 engine just to pump the fuel.
About Mark Chapman
Mark graduated from Bath University in ’92 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and since then has been lucky enough to work on a wide range of projects, from designing the rotor control actuators for the AB139 helicopter, to a sewage works in Totnes, though this perhaps was pushing the limits for what could be termed fluid dynamics!
However, for the main he’s been involved with aerospace projects including a couple of years out in Seattle for Boeing with their Propulsion Systems Division, and quite a portion based at Rolls Royce in Bristol. Most recently he’s spent nearly 4 years as part of the design team on the STOVL system for the F-35 Lightning II, the Joint Strike Fighter.
